The City of Douglasville will be holding a silent auction on Thursday October 29th from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the Douglasville Downtown Conference Center. All proceeds will go towards the City of Douglasville’s 2009 United Way Campaign. There will be several “Theme Baskets” displayed for attendees to bid on. The theme baskets will cover topics such as sports, fitness, scrapbooking, date night, spa & bathe and Twilight(with midnight showing tickets)!! Each basket can serve as a thoughtful gift item for either yourself or a loved one. Thank you in advance for your support of this worthy cause!!

I like to move it, move it in Downtown Douglasville! The Douglasville Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) wraps up the 2009 Friday Night Flicks free outdoor movie series on August 7th on O'Neal Plaza. Have one last summer hoo-rah before the school year begins and show us how you like to move it, move it during the pre-show hula-hoop and dance contest.

Everyone attending the movie is asked to bring a blanket, pillow, low back chair, or beanbag for seating. This event is free and open to the public. Auditions will run 2 minutes long. Please come prepared with cd, jumpdrive or MP3 player. If providing an MP3 player bring any cables needed. Restrictions: No Fire, dangerous objects, or animals allowed in performances. High risk performances are not allowed. Performers must come to audition fully dressed in performance attire. Performance attire must appeal to a family friendly environment. Auditioning does not guarantee a spot to perform on July 18, 2009. Being selected as a performer does not guarantee the performer(s) will be chosen as winners of the contest. Registration form and fees must be filled out and turned in before July 17,2009 in order to perform. Fees are as follows: $25 for an individual or 2 people, $40 for a group of 3 or more people if selected to perform on July 18,2009. Performers younger than 18, must arrive with a parent or guardian. Acts will be separated by age as follows: 12 and younger, 13-20 years old and 21 and older. Each age group will have a first, second and third place winner. CITI TV will tape auditions and a waiver must be signed.

Be ready to Hit the Bricks in your saddle oxfords on Friday, May 29th as Friday Night Flicks kicks off with Grease! Are you a cool cat or a square? Take a step back in time to a decade when chicks wear poodle skirts and ponytails and boys sport black leather jackets and jeans. Wear your best 50's outfit and enter the costume contest or maybe you think you move your hips better than Elvis, enter the hula-hoop contest and find out. The 50's diner offers up food and refreshments with hamburgers, hotdogs, BBQ, funnel cakes, and cotton candy. It will be a night everyone can enjoy!
