City of Douglasville OctoberFest Weekend

Douglasville, GA - The City of Douglasville will be hosting several community events in the historic downtown on October 23, 2010. The festivities will begin at 8:00 a.m. with the first annual West Georgia Quad bike ride. The West Georgia Quad bike ride will feature three different route options including a 35-mile, 50-mile, and 100-mile loop beginning in Historic Downtown Douglasville. The participants will ride through four Georgia counties including Carroll, Douglas, Haralson, and Paulding. Registration is $35 and a portion of the registration fee will be donated to the Boys & Girls Club of Douglas County. At 10 a.m. the first annual Tike Ride will begin. This bike ride is open to kids ages 6 years and below. Training wheels will be allowed. Registration fee is $15. Fall Main Street Community Market
The Douglasville Downtown Development Authority's annual Fall Main Street Community Market will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on O'Neal plaza. The market will feature cycling, sports, fitness, and health vendors. Applications for vendor booth spaces are available online at www.visitdouglasville.com. "Douglasville...So You Think You Can Dance?"
Performing on the Plaza Stage between 11 a.m. 1 p.m. that day will be the "Douglasville...So You Think You Can Dance?" competition. This competition is open to local dance school groups, high school groups, or any other professional dance studio groups consisting of 2 or more people 18 years old and under. A registration fee of $25 per dance school and dance troupe applies.


The 14th Annual Chili Cook off
The 14th annual Cultural Arts Council's Chili Cook off will begin at 6:00 p.m. and will feature hot beans, cool booths, and a kid's costume contest! For more information contact the Cultural Arts Center at 770-949-2787 or www.artsdouglas.org

City of Douglasville Moonlight Run
The final event for the evening will be the City of Douglasville Moonlight Run sponsored by the Douglas County Rogue Runners. This event will begin in downtown Douglasville at 8:00 p.m. with the Tot Trot and DC Road Runners 1 mile, followed by the 1 mike Fun Run at 8:30 p.m. and the 5k Run at 9:00 p.m. For more information visit www.dcrr.clubexpress.com.

Douglasville Summer Sampler -- Thursday July 29 - Saturday July 31, 2010

Douglasville, GA – Come and enjoy the weekend in Downtown Historic Douglasville during the Douglasville Summer Sampler presented by the City of Douglasville Downtown Development Authority. This is the 1st Annual Summer Sampler, and the proceeds from the event will go to help revitalize the Historic Downtown Douglasville through façade grants. Items from local Douglasville Businesses, Wineries, and Broad Street Gifts will also be available for raffle during the event. The Summer Sampler will be held from Thursday, July 29, 2010 thru Saturday, July 31, 2010 from 6 – 9 p.m. each evening and will feature wines from Georgia and Florida vineyards.

The Summer Sampler will kick off on Friday evening, July 29, 2010 at 6:00 p.m. at the renovated Douglasville Downtown Conference Center where ticket holders will enjoy light hors d’oeuvres, jazz music from Jazz Street Collective Enjoy sample tastings and purchase products from Tiger Mountain in North Georgia and San Sebastian from St. Augustine, Florida.

Friday evening, July 30 is all about arts and culture. Friday evening’s location is the Cultural Arts Center located in the Roberts-Mozley House, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Built in 1901, this two-story columned neoclassical style house was home to three Douglasville mayors and a state senator before it became the home of the Cultural Arts Council of Douglasville/Douglas County, Inc. in 1986. The CAC has monthly artist's receptions, exhibits, and special programs including ethnic and holiday celebrations. This location from 6 –9 p.m. will feature a light dinner, pianist Ilja Moston and a sampling of products from Blackstock from North Georgia and San Sebastian from St. Augustine, Florida.

The Summer Sampler will continue and end Saturday evening July 31 from 6 – 9 p.m. where the event will focus on the historic downtown Douglasville’s business district. The featured location is the Douglas County Chamber of Commerce. Two vineyards will be present: Blackstock in North Georgia and San Sebastian from St. Augustine, Florida. Rhythmic Noise will provide live acoustic entertainment and desserts from a local bakery will be served as well.

Tour guests can purchase a 1, 2, or 3-day tour ticket, costing $25 for one day, $40 for two days, and $50 for three days. A Summer Sampler souvenir glass, samples of product, live entertainment and hors d’oeuvres and desset are included in the price. Tickets can be purchased online at http://www.downtowndouglasville.org/, the Douglasville Welcome Center, The Cultural Arts Center and the Douglas County Chamber of Commerce. Tickets will need to be presented the day of the event to receive your wristbands, glass and brochure. No one under the age of 21 will be allowed at the event. Please have your id on hand. If you are traveling from Atlanta, Douglasville is easily accessed via Interstate 20 west with the Downtown Welcome Center/Broad Street Gifts located off Exit 37. Visitors can follow the Tourist Information signs directly into the Downtown Historic District.
