Douglasville Summer Sampler -- Thursday July 29 - Saturday July 31, 2010

Douglasville, GA – Come and enjoy the weekend in Downtown Historic Douglasville during the Douglasville Summer Sampler presented by the City of Douglasville Downtown Development Authority. This is the 1st Annual Summer Sampler, and the proceeds from the event will go to help revitalize the Historic Downtown Douglasville through façade grants. Items from local Douglasville Businesses, Wineries, and Broad Street Gifts will also be available for raffle during the event. The Summer Sampler will be held from Thursday, July 29, 2010 thru Saturday, July 31, 2010 from 6 – 9 p.m. each evening and will feature wines from Georgia and Florida vineyards.

The Summer Sampler will kick off on Friday evening, July 29, 2010 at 6:00 p.m. at the renovated Douglasville Downtown Conference Center where ticket holders will enjoy light hors d’oeuvres, jazz music from Jazz Street Collective Enjoy sample tastings and purchase products from Tiger Mountain in North Georgia and San Sebastian from St. Augustine, Florida.

Friday evening, July 30 is all about arts and culture. Friday evening’s location is the Cultural Arts Center located in the Roberts-Mozley House, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Built in 1901, this two-story columned neoclassical style house was home to three Douglasville mayors and a state senator before it became the home of the Cultural Arts Council of Douglasville/Douglas County, Inc. in 1986. The CAC has monthly artist's receptions, exhibits, and special programs including ethnic and holiday celebrations. This location from 6 –9 p.m. will feature a light dinner, pianist Ilja Moston and a sampling of products from Blackstock from North Georgia and San Sebastian from St. Augustine, Florida.

The Summer Sampler will continue and end Saturday evening July 31 from 6 – 9 p.m. where the event will focus on the historic downtown Douglasville’s business district. The featured location is the Douglas County Chamber of Commerce. Two vineyards will be present: Blackstock in North Georgia and San Sebastian from St. Augustine, Florida. Rhythmic Noise will provide live acoustic entertainment and desserts from a local bakery will be served as well.

Tour guests can purchase a 1, 2, or 3-day tour ticket, costing $25 for one day, $40 for two days, and $50 for three days. A Summer Sampler souvenir glass, samples of product, live entertainment and hors d’oeuvres and desset are included in the price. Tickets can be purchased online at http://www.downtowndouglasville.org/, the Douglasville Welcome Center, The Cultural Arts Center and the Douglas County Chamber of Commerce. Tickets will need to be presented the day of the event to receive your wristbands, glass and brochure. No one under the age of 21 will be allowed at the event. Please have your id on hand. If you are traveling from Atlanta, Douglasville is easily accessed via Interstate 20 west with the Downtown Welcome Center/Broad Street Gifts located off Exit 37. Visitors can follow the Tourist Information signs directly into the Downtown Historic District.
